VIDEO: Richardson looks back at 2002 and 2003 Slam Dunk Contest
Fourteen-year pro Jason Richardson announced his retirement from the NBA in an Instagram post on Wednesday night.
A two-time NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion, Richardson played for five NBA teams (Golden State, Charlotte, Phoenix, Orlando and Philadelphia) after being selected with the No. 5 pick in the 2001 NBA Draft out of Michigan State. The Atlanta Hawks signed Richardson this offseason, but he never played for them.
Richardson rose to prominence during the early 2000s as his high-flying dunks earned him back-to-back Slam Dunk Contest championships in 2002 and ’03.
Richardson retires with career averages of 17.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists. He ranks 16th all-time in 3-pointers made with 1,608.
